Isaac D'Israeli had never taken religion very seriously, but had remained a conforming member of the Bevis Marks Synagogue. His father, the elder Benjamin, was a prominent and devout member; it was probably from respect for him that Isaac did not leave when he fell out with the synagogue authorities in 1813.

Review:
An upbeat and interesting set of AIOs. Nearly all of the episodes in this collection were interesting, original, and entertaining. While we did have some character development in this album (especially Rodney and Isaac), many of the 'important' stories focused on Connie, with the most important of all focused on Jimmy Barclay. This album did broaden the range of kids in Odyssey and increased our knowledge about them. While all of the episodes are good, only three stand out as truly outstanding, First Love and the two-part Castles and Cauldrons (a perfect episode on a very serious subject). Overall, mostly great episodes, but only a couple really got me thinking.
Favorite Episode: Castles and Cauldrons
116: Isaac The Benevolent Society
Rating: 3 stars
Notes:
Originally, the first Odyssey album ('The Early Classics') featured three episodes (115: An Act of Mercy, 116: Isaac the Benevolent, 117: The Trouble with Girls) that did not really belong in the time period of this album. (Two featured Eugene, who hadn't come to town yet.) When the album was released as 'The Adventure Begins,' these episodes were replaced with three that had never been on an album before (17 & 18: A Member of the Family, Parts 1 & 2, 27: A Change of Hart). An Act of Mercy was moved to Gold Audio 8.
Also, never before available 'The Adventure of the Adventure' is available on MP3 on this album.
